The Marina Community
At the Marina we strive to put ourselves at the heart of Lowestoft’s Community. Alongside offering a wide-ranging programme of live shows, cinema and screenings, we have created groups for participants of all ages, experiences and skill levels to help them enjoy the arts, learn new skills, make friends and gain confidence.
Our youth theatre groups allow young people to engage with the world of theatre. Weekly sessions throughout term time give young people in Lowestoft a place to discover all that goes into making a live show.
During the holidays we offer activities for younger children such as storytelling in our café and creative events on stage. In the summer we run a two-week summer school for 13 – 21 year olds, a chance for the young people involved to experience putting together a professional quality production, with opportunities both on stage and behind the scenes.
Our Next Stagers group gives over 50s a place to explore their creativity. The Next Stagers is a friendly and welcoming community that meets once a week throughout the year with sessions ranging from acting, to dance and creative writing. It’s as much about providing a social space to meet and share a love of performing arts, as it is about making shows. Some of our participants have never engaged with theatre before joining the group, whereas others have found it a place to re-kindle their love of the arts in their retirement.
As well as the many other groups which we organise at the Marina and who use our café and meeting rooms to hold their events, we work out of the building too visiting schools and colleges to run workshops and projects.
If you, your school, college or organisation would like to find out more about what we can offer to you, please explore these pages, or get in touch by emailing community@marinatheatre.co.uk
