Gangsta Granny coming to the stage

The world premiere of David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny is coming to the stage in a national tour starting this winter and theatre goers in Lowestoft will have one of the first opportunities to see the show at the town’s Marina Theatre ahead of a run in London’s West End.

Staged by the Birmingham Stage Company, the acclaimed producers of Horrible Histories, Gangsta Granny will run at the Marina from 2-5 December before heading to Birmingham and then into London.

It’s Friday night and Ben knows that means only one thing – staying with Granny! There will be cabbage soup, cabbage pie and cabbage cake and Ben knows one thing for sure – it’s going to be sooooooooo boring! But what Ben doesn’t know is that Granny has a secret – and Friday nights are about to get more exciting than he could possibly imagine, as he embarks on the adventure of a lifetime with his very own Gangsta Granny!

Birmingham Stage Company is delighted to bring to the stage this wonderful new production based on the amazing book by David Walliams, the UK’s best-selling children’s author.

“I am over the moon that ‘Gangsta Granny’ is coming to the stage. It’s the most popular of all my books and I am sure this production by the brilliant Birmingham Stage Company will delight not just children but their parents and of course grandparents”.

Set your alarm clocks, the big Marina Pantomime is set to be an absolute ‘Beauty’ this year!

We are delighted to announce that our Pantomime this year will be the enchanting story of Sleeping Beauty with tickets on sale today for this lavish, full-scale production which opens on December 15th.

Following the enormous success of last season’s production of Snow White, we have once again teamed up with award winning producers, Paul Holman Associates to bring this magical fairy tale story featuring Princess Aurora and her dashing prince to life. Casting is now under way for the production, set to be one of the largest in the region, with the fun packed show opening at the Marina on December 15 and running throughout the Christmas and New Year holiday, ending on January 2nd.

Ticket prices have been held for a third consecutive year and once again include rear circle seats from just £7.00 at every show, supersaver performances with best seats at just £10.50 and school party rates fixed at £8.50 with accompanying teachers free! In addition to our existing special £9.50 rate for groups of over 50 people this year, we have also added a special mini-group rate for parties of 25 or more which allows an £18.50 seat to be purchased for just £12.50. Family Saver Tickets and an early bird booking discount are also now available.

Marina Marketing Manager, Karen Thompson said, “We have already been inundated with enquiries as to when people can book for this year’s production and we have therefore taken the unprecedented step of announcing our title and going on sale earlier than ever before. The Marina Theatre’s annual pantomime season continues to be one of the most popular in the region with more and more people supporting the show and, through this success, audiences now have an even earlier opportunity to book for this year.”

Professional pantomime returned to Lowestoft eight years ago after a gap of over half a century. Described as the life blood of theatre, pantomime is a major opportunity for all venues to build new audiences through schools and families and key to providing financial stability in an extremely uncertain business.

Marina Chief Executive, Martin Halliday added, “We are delighted to announce our pantomime this year will be the enchanting tale of Sleeping Beauty and that for a sixth consecutive season we will be working with the award winning team at Paul Holman Associates. It seems pantomime at the Marina has reached a milestone with our audiences not only enjoying the shows and supporting in great numbers, they also appreciate just how important our annual pantomime is for the future of the Marina. With ticket prices held for a third consecutive year and some generous discounts for groups and families we are pleased to give our patrons the chance to book even earlier this year.”

Our Pantomime season at the Marina has continued to grow in popularity with audiences up almost 150% since we became a Charitable Trust 3 years ago. Over 16,000 people supported pantomime at the Marina last season.

Producer Paul Holman added, “I am thrilled to be returning to my home town once again this year with a brand new production of Sleeping Beauty at the Marina Theatre. Casting is now underway and once again we will ensure the production features a host of comic characters, bundles of audience participation, spectacular scenery & costumes plus some fabulous dancers all accompanied by a live band. We are thrilled that audiences for pantomime at the Marina continue to build and that this success helps to ensure the venue can continue to operate one of the most varied programmes of entertainment to be seen in theatre across the UK.”
