Half Term Make Up Magnificence

A messy make-up session gave youngsters the chance to transform themselves into zombies during the Half Term break at the Marina Theatre.

From zombie groans, to jelly intestines and from latex eye balls to bite marks made from wax, there was plenty on offer for the 16 participants who took part in the workshop on Wednesday, May 31.

The session was run by Jenny Jackson of Jackson’s Murderous Make Up – who has been hosting the fun and interactive sessions for the past six years.

“A lot of the time people just focus on Halloween, but the truth is, you have got shows like Horrible Histories here and children love the gory and messy fun throughout the year,” she explained. “You can’t get this wrong, every zombie bite and scratch is different.”

Previous make-up sessions have taken place at the Marina during the holidays, with blood and gore and theatre-style themes proving popular. But this time, it was the request of the young people to adopt a zombie themed session.

“It’s fun, it’s the reaction of the children that is quite amazing – you get some that really get into it and absolutely cover themselves and then you get some that will sit there and take their time and do the detail,” Jenny added.

Jay Ruickbie, 14, from Pakefield made a fake eyeball during the session. “I started off by making some brains and we stuck loads of cotton wool into it and wrapped it all up. I am feeling really proud with what I have created – although I will probably get asked to be picked up – I am not going to walk home like it.”

Audiences prepare for a thrilling ride across the magical world of ancient Greece

He is best known for presenting the popular CBeebies shows such as ‘Razzledazzle’ and ‘Let’s Celebrate’. And now, Patrick Lynch will be appearing in a brand new stage show at the Marina Theatre in Lowestoft – which uses a pioneering mix of film and theatre.

There and Back Again: An Odyssey uses table-top puppetry which is magnified to giant-size – as the audience is taken on a thrilling ride across the magical world of ancient Greece.

It will take place at the Marina Theatre at 1.30pm and 4.30pm on Wednesday, June 21.

Presented by Lyngo Theatre and aimed at adults and children over the age of six, Patrick portrays the famous battles, floating islands, one-eyed giants and angry Gods that make up Ulysees’ 20 year struggle to get back home.

“It’s one of the hardest shows I have ever done but one of the most rewarding,” Patrick explained. “I have 87 cues to do in a one hour show as I control the lights, camera and action with my hands and sometimes even my feet but the audience, no matter what their age, seems to be transfixed.”

The show is directed and designed by Marcello Chiarenza and the music specially composed by Carlo ‘Cialdo’ Capelli.

All seats are £5 for the performance – which forms part of the ‘Once Upon A Festival’ – East Anglia’s leading festival celebrating the best work on stage for families.
