Access
We believe that theatre is for everyone and we want to make sure you have a comfortable visit. Here are just some of the things we’re doing to make the Marina accessible.
If you would like to talk to a member of staff before visiting us, please get in touch.
Call us on 01502 533200, email info@marinatheatre.co.uk, send a letter to ‘Marina Theatre, Marina, Lowestoft, NR32 1HH’ – or visit us for a chat.
Wheelchairs and mobility aids
Our ground floor is fully wheelchair accessible, including dedicated access toilets, Box Office, Café, Kiosk, Foyer and Auditorium.
We have 5 wheelchair spaces in the auditorium stalls.
Unfortunately our upper floors are only accessible by stairs. We are working hard to source funding to help us install a lift.
Hearing assistance
We have installed a state-of-the-art Sennheiser infrared hearing system.
This allows sound from the stage to be played through headphones or hearing aids using a bodypack. We have 10 bodypacks available. The system is usable with any infrared device that receives 2.3 Megahertz frequency.
Any headphones with a 3.5 millimetre jack plug can be used with the bodypack. You can bring your own set or buy some from our Kiosk.
Signed performances
During our pantomime run we offer at least one signed performance. Wherever possible we will programme more signed performances during the year.
Relaxed performances
These are designed for people who benefit from a relaxed environment. This includes those with an autism spectrum condition, learning disability, dementia, and young children.
You can expect subtle changes to the theatre environment such as a lower level of sound and lighting on stage. House lighting will remain on throughout the performance. We understand that people may not be able to stay sitting for long periods of time and so we offer a breakout area (with activities) outside the auditorium.
Relaxed performances are accompanied by a pre-recorded visual tour of the theatre.
We offer relaxed pantomime performances every year plus relaxed performances on visiting shows where possible.
“It was nice not to feel stressed and worried in case we disturbed anyone. Really impressed by the efforts taken, the staff were exceptionally helpful, the relaxed atmosphere was really welcoming”.
Ear defenders
Ear defenders are available at every Marina performance subject to availability. Just ask a member of staff when you arrive.
